Child Custody & Divorce
Divorce and child custody battles are often a difficult time for those involved. In child custody cases for divorce among cisgender, heterosexual couples, women obtain custody of the child 80% of the time. In cases where the custody of a child is contested, the judge decides what is in the best interest of the child. This best interest is usually seen as a child being in the hands of the mother for nurturing. This stereotype struggles to be broken so that fathers have a fair chance at custody of their child, especially if they are the more fit parent.
