Patriarchy

Patriarchy is a system wherein cis-males hold significant positions of power. The hardest aspect of male-dominated systems is that it is exceedingly difficult to change these systems to include women, since the men in power typically control the system. Because men in power make many of the rules, their ideas affect many women who are not given a voice. Even though women have made significant gains over time, the long history of male-dominated governments and societies means that many of the rules that are already in place, and which patriarchy reinforces, were not made to allow women an equal voice.
