In the workplace, there are many fields without an equal gender balance of men and women. Some fields that lack women employees are Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). In 2009, women held 48% of all jobs, and only 24% of STEM jobs. There are many explanations as to why there are fewer women than men in STEM occupations, and efforts to positively change this are underway and receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in support.
