The way that the media represents women is often very troubling. Women are typically excluded from movies or video games unless they have a role relating to a man in a romantic fashion, or as an object of sexual desire. This habitual portrayal of women reduces women to an object, rather than dynamic human beings. A real life consequence of this is the Gamergate controversy, which targeted and attacked women and minorities who created more inclusive video games by those who did not want the industry to change.
